5. Ronstadt was the first female artist in history to accomplish this feat. The album earned her a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female, her second of a record 11 Grammys. It represented a slight departure from 'sHeart Like a Wheel and 'sPrisoner in Disguise in that she chose to showcase new songwriters over the traditional country rock sound she had been producing up to.

(and I'm beginning to believe its perfection occurs but once in an artist's career), Hasten down the Wind is nonetheless representative of Ronstadt redivivus, of Ronstadt, the sensitive, introspective stirring we have admired all these years. Aside from the inclusion of two innocuous songs—"Lo Siento Mi Vida" and Karla Bonoff's "If He's Ever Near"—the album's problems are fairly well.

8. Again, Linda Ronstadt repeats her slick, Californian pop/country-rock formula on Hasten Down the Wind. When the material is first-rate -- such as "That'll Be the Day" or "Crazy" -- Ronstadt 's performances are terrific, but on the subpar songs -- such as the three Karla Bonoff numbers -- she's dragged down with her material.6/

9. Jan 17,  · I just got a new vinyl copy of Mobile Fidelity's release of Linda Ronstadt's "Hasten Down The Wind". It's my favorite album of her's. While I like many of her other albums, this one is less poppy and more dark, partly due to the three Karla Bonoff songs, but you also have Tracy Nelson's "Down So Low" and Ronstadt's own co-written composition.
